- A mild-mannered secretary discovers that she has a talent for murder as she ascends the corporate ladder.
- A girl gets into trouble at her orphanage and is sent away to reform school. She escapes en route but is found and brought to trial. Her father is the prosecutor.

For a brief time she revels in the luxuries of her new life, but soon she calls at Hardiman's offices for a showdown. The situation becomes embarrassing when he forces unwanted attentions upon her and the next morning her clothing is gone. Escaping in men's clothes, Barbara goes off adventuring.
- A raft carrying a little girl and a dead woman drifts in from a shipwreck to Devil's Island. There, a band of thieves and smugglers name the girl Rose Marie, though she grows up as "nobody's girl." Living in a cave, she learns to read through the kindness of Jason, who is soon killed by the cruel leader, Red Gull. In Red Gull's power, and urged on by Jason's jealous wife, Rose Marie makes her escape in a rowboat, where she is spotted by an aviator flying above the sea. He rescues her, taking her to be cared for at his home where she is well treated. When newspapers report a mysterious shipwreck on Devil's Island, Rose Marie reveals the way in which Red Gull lured ships to their doom there. She guides the authorities to the island, where, after a fierce battle, the thieves are wiped out. Eventually the aviator falls in love with Rose Marie, and "nobody's girl" is somebody's sweetheart at last.
- Bonnie is the object of a brutish bully who likes to spend his time at her foster father's saloon. Arthur, a playwright has come to town after the woman he loves, has married another man for his money. Arthur marries Bonnie to protect her from the bully, meanwhile, the other woman has become a widow and now wants Arthur back. She arranges to put Bonnie in a compromising position with another man; her plan almost succeeds, but Arthur and Bonnie's strong bond of love cannot be broken.

- The story of a baby placed in a home by the father and his sweetheart. As years pass, the child is known as the Little Orphan. The mother becomes the wife of a successful doctor. The father has grown prosperous in business. The child has been forgotten. The child meets with an accident. The doctor cares for her, learns to love her, and adopts her. The father of the child learns of this, and in endeavoring to protect his secret, goes to the doctor's wife, his old sweetheart and mother of the Little Orphan. The doctor finds the duplicity of his wife and leaves her; the Little Orphan is thrown into the street. The father of the child meets with an untimely end at the hands of his former sweetheart, who herself pays the penalty later. The doctor searches and finds the Little Orphan and brings her to his home.

Her only recreation is when Blind Tom plays his hand organ and she dances. Michael Delane, a dancing master, visits the slums and sees her dancing on the sidewalk. He gives Ethel his card. Later, after cruel treatment from Bob, she runs away and visits Delane at his studio. Seeing she has the makings of a great dancer and at this time he is in need of such a person for the new production of "Miss Nobody from Nowhere," he makes her an offer. She consents and tells him of her brother Bob. Delane writes that Ethel is safe and at the same time sends Bob money, giving no address. On the opening night Bob visits the theater and from the gallery sees his sister. Surprised, but pleased at seeing means for getting money. Ethel gives him aid time and time again. Delane professes love for Ethel; she accepts him. Later Bob asks for more money. Ethel refuses. Delane interferes. Bob, drunk at the time, tells Delane that Ethel is not his sister but his mistress. Delane leaves Ethel. Heartbroken, Ethel cares for Blind Tom, who later has his eyesight restored. Ethel helps the poor and dances at an entertainment to be given for the settlement workers. Here Delane happens to drop in and sees her. She realizes Bob needs more money and on seeing Delane on the street decides to try the old scheme once again. Delane is heartbroken and when Bob braces him there is a fight. Ethel, who has just left the Bowery ball, happens to see her brother draw his knife to kill Delane. Ethel interferes and is stabbed in the arm, falling to the ground. Bob sees his mistake and says, "My God, I've killed my sister." Delane hears this and quickly takes Ethel in his arms. Blind Tom has arrived on the scene by this time. Bob discovers a policeman on the other side of the street. He runs; the policeman rushes by the scene and sees what has happened. Blind Tom points to Bob, who is running up the street. The officer follows. Delane and Blind Tom rush Ethel to the hospital, where her arm is dressed and she soon recovers. In the meantime Bob has been chased into a building by the officer. Bob hiding behind the door of an elevator shaft misses his footing and falls to the bottom, dead. By this time big-hearted Blind Tom has repaid Ethel's kindness by bringing together Ethel and Delane.
